4 Keys to a Good Facial Treatment

A professional facial is much more than washing your face. Cleveland Clinic describes it as a noninvasive treatment that includes cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliation and other elements tailored to your skin type and needs (Cleveland Clinic, 2023). Here are four keys we love to share.
1. Personalization and wellness. Everything starts with the consultation and the skin analysis. In Florida, the rule that sets the minimum facial specialist curriculum includes client consultation and skin analysis among the services (Minimum Curriculum for Facial Specialty Training, 2020). Besides caring for the skin, a facial is meant to help you relax (Cleveland Clinic, 2023).
2. The traditional and the modern. Techniques such as gua sha, which has its roots in traditional Chinese medicine, are now part of many facials. Cleveland Clinic (2025) notes that there is not yet enough high-quality research to confirm its benefits, although its gentle downward motion may help move lymphatic fluid.
3. Complete facial care. A full facial service includes cleansing, toning, exfoliation (manual, mechanical or chemical), manipulations, and masks or other treatments as needed (Minimum Curriculum for Facial Specialty Training, 2020).
4. Device techniques. Florida’s curriculum includes manual and mechanical facials on different skin types (normal, oily, dry, combination, problem and mature) and the setup, use and maintenance of electrical devices (Minimum Curriculum for Facial Specialty Training, 2020).
