Facial Care Tip: Hydration
Updated: September 26, 2026
After a facial cleansing, an exfoliation or any treatment, the skin needs to restore its moisture. Here are tips from the dermatologists of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Apply moisturizer while the skin is still damp, for example after bathing, and whenever the skin feels dry (American Academy of Dermatology, 2026).
Choose gentle, fragrance-free products (American Academy of Dermatology, 2026).
For dry skin, choose a cream or an ointment instead of a lotion (American Academy of Dermatology, 2026).
Look for ingredients such as jojoba oil, dimethicone, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, lanolin, mineral oil, petrolatum or shea butter (American Academy of Dermatology, 2026).
Choose a moisturizer for your skin type. As one of the Academy’s dermatologists explains, no single product works for every skin type (American Academy of Dermatology, 2022).
